    Hi,

    Here is my attempt attempt at k.622. I have been working at it for a while and as one might expect requires some improvements. All parts have been tracked using a ewi controller. This provides some realism but makes it difficult to control and correct dynamics. I feel the problems are mostly in individual clarinet note shaping, but correct me if I am wrong.

    The performance has been here for a while. When I reprocessed using a freely provided eventide ultrachannel I thought the track sufficiently cleared to ask for some feedback, so please let me - with lack of subtlety - know where to bring it.

    As I recall, it was this time recorded with a fewer number of dimension strings and using significant amounts of vipro master filter upon cello. Clarinet still SE.

    This is really great musically.  The clarinet is fantastic.  I thought the strings sounded too bright or like something is wrong with the EQ.  What did you do there?  They sound somewhat accordion like, as if the middle high frequencies are exaggerated.  It is beautiful though in the musical performance.

    Hi, William, thanks for your comments and always generous and helpfull feedback.

    Accordion like?[:)] I like a good accordion but not here. But seriously, I thought to have achieved the opposite of exaggerating frequencies. To me dimension violins sound as if they are recorded from quite nearby. They contain a lot of high frequency material, which is good to have for nearby performances but I don't think you hear those at larger distance.

    So initially I tried the vi pro master filter to get some upper frequencies out. That was in the earlier version which sounded boxy with the violins still being bright. What I added in this version was quite a bit of a low pass filtering and some cutting around 400 hz.

    Listening again, I also think the violins are still bright in relation to their intended placement. I wouldn't know how to remedy this.

    I think the 400hz filter may be what I'm hearing.  I wonder what it would sound like just darkened somewhat with a high shelf filter?  Though I have lots of troubling with violin EQ myself so I am not sure.

    Excellent work! Lot's of time and skill put into this wonderful piece.Hope you consider doing the 1st and 3rd movements!

    Hi William,

    Again thanks for your (once more) spot on directions. I replaced the track with a darker version. As he brightness was coming from velocity crossfading and I assume this cannot completely fixed by postprocessing I revisited the tracks to reduce cc's. I think the orchestral timbre is much better this way, yet it leaves sufficient room for improvement.

    I hope the problems in the midrange you mentioned are gone as well.

    That really is phenomenal Martijn. Maybe I just don't have a good trained up like I should, but it was very difficult for me to tell this from a live recording. If I could get the kind of sound you're getting, I'd be satisfied with my work.

    Thanks Fiver. I still have some concerns with the warmth and body of the strings in comparison to reference recordings but I am definitely satisfied with the result.
