  • Soundset VE Woodwinds+Brass Missing Clarinet-Eb

    Hello Andi,

in the Soundset "VE Woodwinds+Brass" the patch for the "W2-07 Clarinet-Eb" Preset is missing. In order to remain synced with your soundsets etc. for future updates I don't want to edit the soundset myself. Would you like to update it or do you expect me to do this on my own? If so, what would be the correct patch name and SoundID for the "W2-07 Clarinet-Eb" Preset? And should I define a new House Style in Sibelius based on the VSL House Style to change the instrument definitions for the Clarinet (Eb) or would you update the VSL House Style too?

In addition the patchname of the Bassethorn is misspelled:

       <Patch Name="Bassset Horn">

          <SoundID>wind.clarinets.basset-horn</SoundID>

    Thanks for any hints.

    Hanspeter

  • Hello Hanspeter!

I guess you are asking for a program on the Manual Sound Sets page for the Clarinet in Eb, right? Such a program isn't necessary, as in Sibelius the Clarinet in Eb has the same Sound ID as the Clarinet in Bb. Simply add another Clarinet program on the Manual Sound Sets page.

A change in the House Style isn't necessary for the same reason.

Thanks for pointing out the three "s" in the program name of the Basset horn. I won't change this as it will lead to playback problems when you open a Playback Configuration where a program has been spelled differently.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hello Andi,

I cannot make Sibelius change instruments between Eb Clarinet and Bb Clarinet. I have 3 channels in VE, one for Eb Cl, one for Bb Cl and one for Bass Clarinet. The channels are properly assigned between the Playback Devices and VE. They test perfectly but the samples in Sibelius only read channel 1 and 3 in VE. What's wrong? Please help! I am working with a large orchestra and have already wasted too much time trying to solve this simple issue.

    Best regards,

    Markus

  • Hello Markus!

Do you have different staves for the three clarinets in your score or did you try to trigger them from one staff?

If you have tried to make output or channel settings in the Sibelius mixer, please reset all outputs to (Auto).

If you need further help, please also let me know which Sibelius version you are using.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

Thank you for your fast reply!

I'm using Sibelius 7.5 and do not dare to come near Sibelius mixer!

I'm using 3 different staves for 3 clarinets. 1 doubles Eb Cl and 3 doubles Bass Cl.  But even if I use 1 staff I can't switch between Bb and Eb.

For the other woodwinds I had no trouble making instrument changes. I have 3 different staves for 3 flutes and switch 1 for the doubling piccolo and 3 for alto flute with no problem at all. I have assigned channel 1 for piccolo, 2 for flute and 3 for alto flute.

But when it comes to the clarinets i can't switch between Eb and Bb no matter what I try. And even switching between Bb and Bass Bb requires me to assign more channels for Bb Cl or else when I make the instrument change for Clarinet 3, Clarinet 2 stops sounding.

I tried to use "none" Sound Set in the Playback Devices within Sibelius and I could find a sound ID for Eb Clarinet: "wind.clarinets.eb". Is this the root of the problem? It seems that Sibelius cannot find the difference between the Clarinets and only interpretates MIDI channel assignements.

I am writting for an orchestra with the following instrumentatio: 3333-4331-tmp+3-hp- cel/pno-cds. It's a quite large orchestra so I really need to be able to make instrument changes rather than assigning an individual staves for Eb Clarinet and Bass Bb Clarinet. I'm also short on RAM (4GB) and my iMac can't expand witch is really dreadful...

    Best regards,

    Markus

  • Hello Markus!

The Clarinet in Eb and the Clarinet in Bb have the same Sound ID by default (wind.clarinets.clarinet). That has been defined this way by Sibelius. So an instrument change between Clarinet in Eb and Clarinet In Bb will not produce a different Sound ID and therefore Sibelius will continue to play on the same channel. Changing the Sound ID to "wind.clarinets.eb" will not help, because such a Sound ID is not defined on our sound sets. So in this case I'd recommend using two staves for Clarinet 1 - one for the Clarinet in Eb and one for the Clarinet in Bb. You can hide the staff that's not in use. The Bass clarinet has a different Sound ID (wind.clarinets.bass), so you can use one staff for your Clarinet 3 and work with instrument changes. On the Manual Sound Sets page reserve 4 channels for "Clarinet" and one for "Bass Clarinet". In Vienna Ensemble load the Sibelius/Clarinet in Eb preset for your first clarinet channel, the Sibelius/Clarinet in Bb preset for the next three channels and the Sibelius/Bass Clarinet preset on the fifth clarinet channel.

    I hope this helps.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but can I ask why there isn't a separate sound ID for the Eb and Bb clarinet? They are, after all, different instruments. Is it a simple job to create one, and could this request be put on a wishlist somewhere? Having to create multiple staves for doubling instruments becomes a pain when working on larger scale scores, and anything that makes part prep less tedious is always helpful.

    Thanks Andi,

    Best

    Hello Mike!

This question should be directed at the Sibelius team. They defined the Sound IDs of the instruments. It would be possible to create an extra Clarinet in Eb instrument with the "Vienna Symphonic Library" House Style and make extra entries in the Special Edition, Special Edition PLUS and Woodwinds+Brass sound sets though. It's added to the wish list. ðŸ˜‰

    Best regards,
    Andi

Oh yeah, of course (smacks forehead).

Right, that's that over with then. Sibelius feature requests? PML😔

We didn't do so well with 'please don't fire the amazing development team you've got and replace them with cheap labour, and then introduce a massively unpopular subscription model to charge us for the improvements you won't ever be making.'

    Thanks all the same Andi
