MIRx natural volume.

I posted a message a few weeks ago saying that I thought the dimension brass volume was too low compared to the original libraries, I did a little experiment. I don't have any VSL brass so I compared trumpet 1 to clarinet 1. I used MIRx, Vienna Konzenthous GrosserSall, with the dry/wet set to 90, pre-eq activated but no natural volume. Sustain, C4. First number is peak, second rms. The first setting are VelX and Exp set to 63. Trpt: -40/-45 Clar: -30/-33 Next, VelX and Exp set to 100 Trpt: -29/-34 Clar: -12/-15 This is way to soft for the trpt. Using natural volume brings the 2 instruments in line with each other. When I first started using MIRx, I didn't use natural volume because it made everything too soft. I'd have to crank up all the volume parameters more than I'd like too. Has anyone else experienced this? Without using natural volume, I have the problem on having to crake the volume parameters on dim. brass to bring it inline with the VSL winds and strings.

I am a brand new MIRx user and I'm running into the same problem when I select Natural Volume using the Special Edition. Makes me wonder if there's something I'm missing. The relative volume of the instruments may be correct, but with the Master Volume slider in VI Pro set to 100 the output is very faint.

I'm curious what sort of answers you get, Babe. I'm hoping there's something obvious that compensates for this or corrects it. I really want to use Natural Volume.

Well ... there are no secrets regarding Natural Volume (see MIRx Manual p.11 ff.). [;)]

Natural Volume has to cover the extremes on both sides of the dynamic spectrum, up to the very loud instruments like Tamtam etc. A lot of dynamic headroom as to be reserved for them, therefore most other instruments will have to be set to much lower levels.

The most obvious way to deal with this natural phenomenon is to simply raise the level of your mix bus (as long as you don't write for those loud exceptions). If this is inconvenient for some reason, you can also raise the volume of all individual instruments by the same value.
