  • External HDD experience

    Hello Everyone,

For the people considering external storage for sample libraries or experiencing 'slow disk' or CPU issues i wanted to share my experience.

I recently configured my setup with an external thunderbolt raid storage (OWC) including two 2tb Caviar Black 7200rpm disks (independance mode). This together with vienna Ensemble Pro works extremely well. My overall preformance made a significant increase. My mail library (VSL) on external 1, my second library (EW) and Ivory on external 2, rest of plugins on main disk. This keeps data streams nicely under control. VEP with several instances uses all cores in computer very efficient.

For me, this (mainly VEP) turned my system in a blazing fast, never crashing system.

    Regards, Mark

  • If you use an SSD, internal or external, you will have a vastly better system.  After switching to SSDs for sample storage I would never use any platter drive - no matter how good the quality they are primitive contraptions compared to SSDs and extremely slow.
