  • portamento strings

Is there a way of using the portamento violins in the performance set so that you slide up to a long sustained note?? I am trying to write a line with the 'destination' note lasting a couple of bars, but the note cuts out half way through the second bar. If I use another patch to get the length I need, I lose the portamento effect? I'm sure there's a simple answer to this. Thanks in anticipation.... [:D] xx

  • No... unfortunately destination notes arent sampled longer... your best option would be to layer a sustain patch in their and then crossfade between them...

    sorry [:(]

  • There is a very easy and effective workaround to get long Performance Legato destination notes. Especially with string ensemble, this works fine:

Play your legato line and step on your sustain pedal when you trigger the last note. Trigger the note once more with the same velocity and release the sustain pedal.

And this is what happens in the sampler:

The Performance Tool doesn´t take notice of the sustain pedal, therefore you trigger a new starting note, that blends with the original Legato destination note.

If you want to hear a bow-change, you can also use the "Repetition Trigger" Function Key.

Nice discovery Paul. I imagine there would be problems with solo instruments phasing, but for the ensembles it's a good workaround - thanks.

    Andy.

  • Thank you for that Paul........ I shall give it a try and report back. All Best, SL

  • Great discovery Paul. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the nice feedback, everyone!

Alright, I HAVE to say, it wasn´t MY discovery!

And please remember: this trick only works with ensembles, with solo instruments the would be a phasing-effect. But wind players need to breath from time to time, and for all solo-strings you can either add a repeated tone with the Repetition Trigger or the slow-repetitions to sustain the target note.

    Have fun, Paul
