  • Logic X and Vienna Instruments signal flow

    Hello!

I am respectfully requesting some help over how to set up my new template with Logic X using VI.

I instantiate VE PRO5 and have several instances of VI hosted within. Each VI instance contains several presets for an orchestral section, i.e. Strings, Brass etc.

So for the Strings the violin preset is customised with 10 differing articulations - leg, spic, pizz etc. The viola preset with the same equivalent set. I have MIR set up so a static mix is well balanced as per the great work of the VSL team :-)

My question is how do I get individual articulations back into Logic for dynamic and automated mixing using the Logic mixer?

Currently the mixer only shows Inst 1 (eg violins), Inst 2 (eg violas) - but NOT the individual articulations. I guess its a bussing problem but I am really stuck!

    Any help deeply appreciated.

    Cheers

  • Do you really want a diiferent audio channel for each articulation? Or you a audio per instrument?

The idea under VI is to have one midi/audio channel per instrument. But you can have up to four stereo outputs if you use different matrix.

But if you want to route the individual instruments output back to logic :

-Use the multi out version of VE Pro in Logic (not the stereo one)

-be sure to have enough output for your needs in VE Pro preferences (Restart VE and Logic if you you make changes)

-it the + sign at the bottom right of logic's VE Pro channel to create aux channels for the other VE Pro outputs. You can even use those aux as midi tracks if you put them in the arrange window

  • Hi Fred,

Thanks for the tip, I will see if this works for me!
