  • Alberto Iglesias

I was watching Almodovars "Mala Educacion" last weekend and was totally engaged by the music of Alberto Iglesias. Very very strong and not clichéed at all. In fact at some moment I found myself waiting for the next music... the film itself didn´t speak to me that much like the music did.
There´s some strong Hermanesque sound in it but I also found a lot of sounds from 90's concert music.

Does anybody know some more background about Iglesias. Half an hour of googling didn´t bring anything useful. Where does he work? Madrid?

  • I read somewhere that he teaches in San Sebastian or somewhere close to there in the Basque country.
I adored the score for Habla con ella
And the film is fantastic too.

    best,
    John

  • Yes, great film. I´m currently aquiring his other film scores. I don´t have "Habla con Ella" yet, but "Todo sobre di Madre" (All about my mother), which has much Tango stuff in it with Dino Saluzzi playing Bandoneon. So I feel victim to this score anyway....

  • Alberto Iglesias is one of the best composers here in Spain... as John A pointed, Hable con Ella is a terrific score... but he has also done some others which I specially love...

In particular the score for the film "Tierra", "los amantes del círculo polar", "Lucia and the Sex" from director Julio Medem, and also he has also done the music for an advertisement which is simply superb... evocative and very magical...

In concert works I have a string piece called "cautivas", which is also incredibly expressive [:D]

    Regards,

    Iván.

  • Ivan, why so modest. He´s definitely not only of national relevance. The more I hear him I´m more impressed. Yes, "habla con ella" is really amazing. (although the opening strings remind me too much too Barbers "Adagio".)
"Lucia y el sexo" however didn´t attract me that much. The electronics was kind of standard and also the instrumental stuff has an higher impact on other soundtracks (personal opinion. The film however I really liked.)

On which CD/medium is the concert piece?
