    Ahoy all! I've been learning the VSL for a few months now, but there's a n00b question I still don't quite understand: what's the purpose of Vienna Ensemble? I've been using Logic 9 for a few years now, and am in the habit of just loading an instrument directly into a Logic track for all recording purposes, then using the on-track buses and plugins for mixing. Now I'm learning how to route Vienna Ensemble instances into Logic, but sadly... I don't quite see the purpose of it all. What does a Vienna Ensemble track give me that I can't do faster/more directly in a Logic track? Many thanks for any advice and help!

    Welcome Fiver, 

    Vienna Ensemble runs as a second application OUTSIDE of your sequencer, which means that it also accesses its own portion of RAM. This used to be quite a big thing when sequencer were only available in 32-bit mode. 

    So when you are running Logic 9 in 32 bit mode, Vienna Ensemble can run as a 64-bit Service, which gives you access to "unlimited" RAM (as much as you have available) and also lets you use 64 bit plug-ins (and the other way around, of course). 

    In our eyes, it´s also quite convenient to have all Vienna Instruments in one host (and one window), but of course it´s your choice how you want to use VI/VE.

    Aha, thank you Paul, I get it now! Yes, I HAVE been running Logic 9 in 32-bit mode, and now I can see how this will let me use all my RAM. Many thanks for the help! - Evan
