  • Custom Cells and Sibelius

Hi, I was wondering how I can get a custom cell (for instance: horn portamento - vibrato sus) to play back in sibelius. Now the program always chooses horn vib sus because my portamento cell is combined with non-vib sus... Thanks in advance, Pieter

  • Hello Pieter!

I'm sorry to say that I'm not sure what you are trying to do exactly.

The Horns don't include portamento patches. Do you mean glissando?

How to trigger the custom cells with the VE Woodwinds & Brass sound set is explained in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual, page 14.

  • Hello Andreas, What I ment to say was portaTO ofcourse, I feel rediculous! But your solution has solved my problem for the Horn. This is a full instrument I have bought. However the majority of my collection exists out of Special edition (plus) instruments. How do I use custom cells there? I can find no reference in the optimizing sibelius playback guide...

  • Hello Pieter!

There are no custom cells prepared for the Special Edition and Special Edition PLUS. All articulations are included in the matrices anyway.

  • Hello Andi, My plan is to make custom portamento's using the timestretch feature in Vienna Instruments Pro. I could do it by adding an other instrument in Vienna Ensemble and Sibelius and choose my custom cells by using keyswitches but that seems like an awful lot of trouble... I'd like to thank you for the countless times you have helped me, you probably have saved me from countless heart attacks caused by incompetence! Thanks!, Pieter

  • Hello Pieter!

I'm happy to read that I have saved you from heart attacks. I hope it's not that serious though. [:O]

The portamento patch is included in the SE PLUS matrices two times. So you can use the timestretch feature on one of the two versions and keep the other one as it is. Then you can switch between these versions with a MIDI Control Change command. In Sibelius these commands look like this:
    ~C1,64
for sending CC1 with value 64
    ~C1,127
for sending CC1 with value 127

More details about sending MIDI commands can be found in the Sibelius Reference.

  • I was kidding ofcourse ;-) That would do the trick! I was wondering: if you use midi control changes for instance the Cresc./Dim. plugin. Afterwards the Master Volume remains on the last value. I know I could change it back to the normal value using midi control changes again but is there a message to just reset it without having to put in the value? This is of importance if I decide to change the master volume in the mixer. Also (purely theoretical): if I would make a 4th row and copy all the Patches from the third row, then I would have one more portamento patch to alter. Would this work correctly? Thanks again, Pieter

  • Hello Pieter!

I don't know of a command in Sibelius to reset Volume. I guess you will have to use a MIDI message for that.

Yes, making a fourth row in the matrix and copying the cells from the third row would be possible. Please notice that the sound set sends CC1,127 commands for the last row and CC1,64 commands for the middle row. So in order to still work correctly, your enhanced matrix should keep this structure.

    Andi
