  • VE5 and MIR

Most likely I'm missing something as usual, but here's the quote from the manual for the new VE5:

As Vienna Ensemble 5 is fully backward-compatible with version 4, you can load your existing projects and keep working on your music right after installation.

This does not seem to be the case.  I was using MIR with 5 - 7 different instances of VE in one project previously.  Now when I load an old project, I get a message that the MIR plug in could not be found for every instance, and so all my MIR settings are now apprently lost.

It appears that I have to start over on all my projects!  Harumph!

In addition, previously when I was using VE with multiple instances, I could call MIR in any one of them and it would recognize it all as the same MIR stage.  Now when I call MIR in different instances, each VE instance seems to load it's own instance of MIR.  For example, I now have a MIR that contains Violins I only, a MIR that contains Violins II only, etc.  Before all the instruments were together in the same MIR hall.

Do I have to reconfigure all my VE setups so that all instruments are in a single VE instance?  Is there a limit to how many instruments you can have in a single VE instance?

    Help!

  • Hi,

My apologies, that was an oversight on our side. We´ll have it fixed with the next update, just adding a setting in the VE Preferences that allows you to use MIR PRO as a plug-in in Vienna Ensemble (MIR PRO and MIRacle are filtered out as "normal" plug-ins in VE, just as they are in VE PRO).

You can contact us at , if you like, so we can provide you with the beta version.

  • Thanks Paul. So this switch will allow me to load my existing projects with all the MIR Pro settings intact?

Just out of curiosity, if MIR isn't loaded as a plug in then how is it used?  Not clear on this.

And in the meantime how do I get VE 4 back?

    1) Yes.

    2) By using integrated "tool-kits".

    3) From the archive in your User Area

  • Paul, thanks again.  I was panicked thinking I had lost all my MIR settings for over 100 projects!

All is right with the world again, but now I'm curious.  How can I find out more about "integrated toolkits?"  Is this a new feature in VE5?

    Michael

  • Hello Michael,

Toolkits are simply our internal term for how we integrate plug-ins in our own software (MIR PRO, VI PRO, VI...).

These plug-ins don´t show up like other 3rd party plug-in, but have their own icons (e.g., the VI PRO and VI icons below the channel list on the left).

    Nothing new [:)]

  • Thanks Paul.  A related question, is there a way that I can install both versions on my Mac?  I'd like to play with VE5 since it has some really cool features, but I'd still like to use VE4 when I want.

  • Hi Michael,

VE 5 is an upgrade to VE 4, they cannot run simultaneously, sorry to say.
