    I'm new to the VSL and I have a question about the crescendo patches. Each one it laid out in duration by seconds. How do I fit these into a mix that is based on a certain tempo? Do I just use the closest one or can I be more precise by attaching a tempo to it? Aric

    In practice, I'd look at the time of the start of the note and the time you want it to reach its full swell.  Then pick the closest corresponding swell.  You can always cut the note short if you think the crescendo will continue too long, or amp up the volume strategically if the swell isn't quite long enough.  Worst-case, you can even use a sustain with dynamic crossfade to customize the swell.  There are some instruments where it's nearly impossible to hear the difference.

    What you could do is use Stretch to cover virtually all possibilities and then use a controller to pick the right one for your tempo. Or re-sample, load into Kontakt and use Time Machine Pro. Now that would be naughty.  [;)]

    You can also manipulate the cresc/dim via cc11, and lessen the loudest part, ramp up the volume a bit after to change the dim characteristics, to make a more gradual arc, etc.  This, in conjunction with using the Stretch function will give you lots of ways to alter the straight cresc/dim samples.
