Room Tone?
-
I'm sure other smarter members here can provide a bit more detail but, in short, the room tone is just a recording of the room noise. The reason it's included is because no real-world recording is done in a digitally silent room. There's always a little bit of noise in an active room. A big red flag that gives away the fact that a recording is done using samples is if things get literally noise-free. VSL included a room tone option in MIR which is meant to be used on its own separate track to provide an authentic recorded sampling of the background noise of just the hall itself.

Thanks for the response. Yet again MIR always suprises me with it's level of detail! I'm new to MIR and VSL have been using a simple piece to explore it's possibilies. With each new feature I come to understand I go back and redo do it for my own training purposes. I guess I'll be redoing this mix yet again. I task I look forward to doing. Thanks Vienna! Forgive me for asking this question but I'm not at my home computer and can't see my DAW but where is the Room Tone sample player and how do I set up the routing in Sonar? I ask because I recall seeing the Room Tone button in MIR but is greyed out. Thanks for your help. Aric
