  • Is it possible to control vibrato?

    Hi,

Maybe a stupid question but is it possible to control the extent of vibrato with a CC controller for the dimension string library?

    Best regards,

    Frieda

  • yes,

VI use the slots crossfade feature to acheive this.

Load any Small Set L2 or Large Set L2 presets and you will see some ready to use Vib X-fade cells.

These are SusX, pLeX and pPoX.

The Vibrato control (Slot X-Fade) is set to CC#20 by default.

Everything is configurable but these matrix are great time savers.

  • Thank you Fred. I'll give it a try

  • Hello,

Naive questions, but- Does this change the vibrato during the note, or is it just to go from one cell to an other, note after note?

    - Does this also exist in Chamber Strings?

    Thanks in advance!

    Fred

  • You can make this a crossfade so that it happens in real time while the note is being held.  I don't have VI open but from memory I believe there's a circular button between the two cells that you can click to turn it into a crossfade.

  • You can crossfade from one cell to the next during the note, yes. I would caution about considering this 'control of vibrato', you're crossfading from one 'patch' to another, ideally with a different vibrato in that patch. Actual 'control of vibrato' will come from some form of synthesis and be artificial; at least I know of nothing that actually does something to the recorded vibrato of the performer.

  • Hi guys,

Thanks for your answers. Yes, in the meantime I discovered cells A and B, with crossFadeX

Quite convincing with chamber strings from no vibrato to vibrato, IMHO
