    Hi:

    I am experiencing clicks and drop-outs when using VEP and Finale 2014. All the newest version of all software installed.

    2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 Retina MacBook Pro

    16 GB RAM

    OS X10.9.1

    Samples split over two firewire 800 drives

    Cells disabled on loading, only loaded when activated via MIDI

    I notice from the Activity Monitor that VEP is using 73% of CPU even when idling. Is the right?

    Right, I should have mentioned that.

    RME Babyface USB interface. Latest driver and firmware installed.

    Also, VEP set to 3 threads per instance (4 cores in my Mac), 4 MIDI ports per instance, 32 audio in/out per instance.

    You still haven't mentioned what the soundcard buffer is, so the first port of call would be to raise it.

    For the rest,:

    1.  How many threads (not cores) in your Mac?
    2. How many instances of VSP are you using?
    3. AU or VST?
    4. How are you using the audio in/out?

    I misunderstood your question. The current buffer size is 512. I will try to change that, though I have used 512 successfully for years.
