  • Slow MIR Pro Performance (solved, for now)

    Hi Team

I am experiencing slow MIR Pro performance...namely dragging icons around the stage and scrolling and zooming. It's making it far too painful to reorganize my orchestra. I can't tell if this is an old or new problem because, quite honestly, this is the first time I've revisited my MIR settings since I got my new computers. Dragging icons lags 2-3 seconds behind my mouse. Scrolling/zooming lags 3-4 seconds behind. Sometimes I have to wait 2-3 seconds for an icon simply to be selected.

I thought, at first, the problem was related to the fact that I had 50+ icons on the stage...but then I tried a blank session with the Stone Room and things are still quite laggy (though not as bad). I have assigned VEPro 12 cores and disabled animation smoothing. IR cache is set to 5GB. My system specs are in my signature. The GPU on my slave is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760. Windows settings have been set to "Best Performance".

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Edit: I should add, for clarification, that loading IRs and the actual audio performance is fine.

  • Update: I just tried to use the Standalone VEPro (which I never normally use) and the performance is just great. This seems to be isolated to the server.

  • Update 2: No, it's not solved. It's actually very slow again. It takes 15 seconds to move the MIR stage even a little...

  • I have found that performance gets better or worse depending on how many instruments I have loaded in MIR.  With one instrument, I move the instrument and MIR updates near-instantly.  I can almost make changes to the instrument and hear it reflected mid-play.  When I get up to the twenty-five or thirty instruments I normally have, though, it takes quite a while to load, like fifteen seconds.  Does this lag happen for you even with a single instrument?

  • Even with no instruments! [*-)]

I uninstalled VEPro and reinstalled it and then the problem went away briefly. Now the problem is back. Strange...

  • I just notcied something strange...

When VEPro installed it installed into C:/ Program Files / Vienna Ensemble Pro. When I click on START I see two choices 1) Server 2) Standalone. But when I click "go to file location", I see just Vienna Ensemble Pro x64 and Vienna Ensemble Pro-- no mention of the word "server". And then when I launch either of these it launches the standalone. The only way I can get the server is through the START menu.

  • Update 3: I tried resintalling again, but this time I trashed the prefs. Problem has gone away. Fingers crossed.

  • OK, it seems this is related to Remote Desktop Connection.

When I start RDC everything works, although (as would be expected) the screen feels a little laggy. But then when I disconnect my RDC session, MIRPro goes nuts (I hooked up an external monitor and checked it).

I have to uninstall and reinstall VEPro and trash prefs in order to fix it.
