  • Technical help for a newbie appreciated

Hi guys, Having a couple of issues with my system and I hope some of you may be able to answer some of my questions. Not a complete newbie and have read all the manuals but still am unsure about a few things. Two main issues: 1) When using VE with Pro Tools (10) the system runs very slow and is pretty well unplayable. Also after quiting PT, it takes about 3min for VE to close. 2) When using VI Pro as a standalone or with Ableton, it's useable but is clicky. The Facts: MBP mid 2012 15" 2.3 GHz i7 4GB RAM (to be upgraded to 16GB in the next few days) OS X 10.8.5 Standard 5400 RPM drive MBox 2 Pro Tools 10.3.8 Ableton Live 8 Dimension Strings and VI Pro String samples are on an external Elgato Thunderbolt SSD drive (thunderbolt to thunderbolt cable) So here are the questions: a) Should I be running 32 or 64bit Ensemble Service? b) Pro Tools Playback Engine settings : what should they be? c) Is that the best setup for the samples? On an external hard drive. d) It the clicking most likely a RAM issue? e) Why the heck is it so slow? It worked pretty well on my last system which was just a little faster. I know it's me but what do I need to do? Any ideas and help that you may have would be greatly appreciated. The samples are fantastic and I've been using them for about a year, but have just changed laptops and have found myself in a bad place with this.

  • One more question: On the external SSD I just have the samples, and VE and VI Pro are installed on my system drive. Should they ALL be installed on the SSD? Many thank
