  • New User: Need help on String Instrument Usage

I recently bought the Horizon Opus 1. I noticed that there weren't Marcato strings included in that set, which I really need for this piece I wrote. Has anyone figured out what combination of other string samples comes closest to getting that short loud bow strike that sounds like forte marcato?

Also, I'm writing a waltz for strings that requires a lot of high violin "tip toeing." However, I'm finding that the samples aren't sounding great, "that promised VSL sound." They instead sound very tinny, MIDI, thin. Any suggestions on how to get those high pitched staccato sounds to sound fuller and deeper?

    Thanks so much,
    Sherene

  • You can layer staccati with sustains for example.
Check also the fp, sfz and sffz articulations.

  • I second the vote on using the "sforz" instruments. If your sustains are not terribly long, they'll have the closest attack to what you'd expect from a marcato sample.
