Just started playing with the cut-down VSL supplied with Gigastudio 3, and I'm a little disappointed by the violin samples. The "Violin sustain" is the only patch suitable for most general purpose string passages, but the attack (I think that's the word - not an expert on sampling!) is so slow that the patch is pretty useless for anything except really slow stringy sounds. I have a passage of mixed crotchets and quavers (at crotchet=160), and the quavers are virtually inaudible. Switching to the staccato sample for the quavers doesn't help - the sound is far too aggressive.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just a way of persuading us to upgrade to the "real" VSL? And if I were to do so, is there a sensible violin patch with a bit more bite but without going too spiccato?
