  • VEP Intel I210 Controller on new computer

    Hi All,

I am having two identical computers built. The mobo has one Intel 82579V LAN and one Intel 82574L LAN. But I just saw a newer version of the board with two Intel I210 controllers. The spec sheet for this controller says that the I210 is specifcally designed for audio streams.

    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ethernet-controllers/i210-ethernet-controller-family-brief.html

Is this likely to make a big difference in the stability/performance of my VEP connection? Should I bother upgrading them?

  • remember VEP does not stream audio (in the sense of sending wave-files across the ethernet-cable), it is just using the network connection.

though there might be issues with a few network controllers in my opinion the more important part is the switch connecting both controllers.

bandwidth or CPU load (originating from a network controller) is not an issue for VEP with gigabit at all ...

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
