    Hi everybody,

    CPE BACH Symphony N°1 WQ182

    Best.

  • Wow, that is great -- one of your best performances.  Were the longer notes that had a strong attack layered detache with sustain?  They sound very well matched to all the short notes which is sometimes difficult to do.

C.P.E. sounds almost exactly halfway between old J.S. and Mozart ! I like the blend of Baroque morphing into Classical.

  • Thanks William.. For long notes with strong attacks, i use "smoothed attack" staccatos (attack envelop)  layered with dynamics and/or sustains. I change the velocity curve too. I really regret not having "no vib" dynamic in Dimension violins ...

Mozart, like Haydn, had great admiration for CPE. CPE created much styles and had a great influence on them. When you speak about morphing, it's a pretty good image. And the galant style of CPE is really delicious ...I will do more of him, he is one of my favorite [;)]

  • Yes, great.  Very realistic.

  • Wow, sounds great! I think I'm coming along OK with my own solo, chamber and dimension strings then I hear something like this that raises the bar yet again [:D]

  • Tasteful performance.
    And what a rendering!

  • Hi Phillipe,

That sounds very nice indeed. A warm and lush sound in the strings while the lines remain well defined/articulated. You are clearly developing your individual sound with the VSL libraries that suits the pre classical style of CPE well.

As you say you achieve this by layering staccato and dynamic patches. Can you also explain a bit about the way you approach the organization of string sections with the different libraries?

    Thanks for sharing your performance,

    Martijn

  • Thanks everybody for these kind comments ! Happy you like it !

@Martijn : i will prepare some explanations with samples, it will be better than a long speech ...

    Best.

    Philippe.

    Hi,

for much better sound, i post on soundcloud a lossless version (FLAC). Don't use streaming (it will be as poor soundcloud sound as the other version) : download it on your computer and use a player like Foobar. Foobar allowed to listen using asio driver.
