  • Using AIR Music Technology instruments in VEP slaved to Pro Tools 9

AIR Music Tecnology is offering an upgrade to the Instrument Expansion Pack in the AAX format. If I choose to upgrade, will I be able to instantiate Hybrid 2, Strike 2, Loom, et al, in VEP slaved to ProTools 9? Thank you in advance for your assistance. -Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

while Vienna Ensemble Pro itself comes in VST / AU / RTAS / AAX-format, it will host only 3rd-party plug-ins in VST 2  / VSTi 2 (Windows) or AU (OSX)-format.

  • Thank you for your reply, Dietz. Now I see that I should be asking AIR Music Technology if they plan to release AU versions of their instruments, which I would think would be possible now that they are not part of Avid. Thank you for answering me even though the solution to my issue can only come from AIR, not VSL. -Patrick

  • You're welcome! Sorry that I didn't have better news for you. :-)

  • Dietz, I did ask the AIR group if they planned to release their instruments in any of the formats that are compatible with VEP, and I should have been able to predict their answer, as I should be able to predict yours: They will not say whether they will be coming out with other formats. Companies don't seem to like to talk about what they are working on until what they're working on is released. So if I were to ask you if your company has anything in the works that will eventually allow AAX plugins to be instantiated in VEP, you'd likely have to give me the same answer, that you cannot discuss such speculation until and unless products are ready for release, nor could you say if you knew that AAX plugins will *never* be instantiated in VEP because of proprietary issues with Avid. Am I correct? Thank you, Dietz. -Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

as far as I know there isn't _any_ other AAX-host than ProTools, and I doubt that this will change in the near future. But to paraphrase your own message: "Never say never!". :-)

    Kind regards,
