  • Strange behaviour on one of my Sibelius Scores

In one of my Sibelius scores, something strange is happening between 1st Violins and 2nd Violins during playback. I'm using Vienna Special Edition Vol1, and for some of the score the 2nd Violin part gets played on the 1st Violin channel along with the 1st Violin part. What could be causing this?

  • Additional information. The problem does not occur if I solo the 2nd Violins in the Sibelius mixer. The part plays as it should, as also if I solo the 1st Violin. the problem only happens when I am using my Vienna Ensemble Mixer window. So the error is part of the link between the Sibelius and Vienna software. Phil

  • Hello Phil!

It can have different reasons why such a problem occurs. Maybe a Sound ID from earlier in your score causes this. In this case a simple "ord." before the problematic passage can help. The Troubleshooting section of the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual offers some more help.

  • Hi Andi I finally managed to clear it up. I don't think it was a sound ID as when I soloed in the Sibelius Mixer the problem stopped. The problem seems to be post Sibelius. Anyway, I tried changing sounds for the 2nd Violin part, even opening a 2nd instance of Vienna Ensemble in order to break up the link. I then went back to the original setup, and suddenly it played correctly. I still have no idea of the cause, or why it was solved. Could it be that I am also using a demo of Vienna Ensemble PRO 5?. BTW, if I cut and paste from 2nd Violin to another instrument, such as Harp, the link was also broken, and the 1st Violin played correctly. Then when I replaced the 2nd Violin part, the error came up again. Hopefully now it will remain correct.

  • Hello Phil!

Since you have a demo license for VE Pro, it might very well be the case that you are indeed using it. [;)] Anyway, this has nothing to do with the problem you were describing, which seems to be resolved now anyway.

    Best,
    Andi
