I currently have a pc in the works. It will run as a slave to my Mac Pro. I will use Hollywood Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, etc. Fortunately my knowldege in large part pertains to writing music. Unfortunately, I do not know much about how to setup this software/hardware system.
I'm pretty clear in that I should install all East West general software and samples on the PC Slave, correct? Should I install Vienna Ensemble Pro on the slave, as well? I read a lot of talk about PLAY, but I don't understand what it does. If samples are created by East West software and VEPro manages them, why is PLAY needed? On which machine do I install it?
Do I need something like Pro Tools? What else do I need?
Would anyone fill me in on where I should go for detailed instructions on how to set up this software environment?
thanks

PC slave basic setup questions

Wow, so many questions. So I have a few in return as well as some answers:
- If you are going to sequence your music, rather than just play it, you need a sequencer.
- I would recommend Cubase, because not only does it have top notch MIDI and audio features, it is also cross-platform.
- If you want to use stuff from East West you have to use their proprietary player called PLAY. This can be hosted in your sequencer (see above) or in VE Pro
- VE Pro needs to be installed on all machines, but you only need a licence (and eLicenser dongle) on the one where you are going to open the GUI and load instruments and effects.
- PLAY uses a different kind of dongle called iLok.
- As
far as setting things up, first of all learn how to use your sequencer.
Support will come from the company that makes this sequencer
- Learning how to use PLAY comes from East West support.
