What kind of orchestra size can be loaded on 32GB RAM?
I'll be running SE and MIR24. My thoughts are on limiting the ensemble to Classical Symphony size. Would I be able to load enough simultaneous instruments for that? People running 64GB or more, are these for serious film scoring jobs?

When using the fuill libraries, 24-32GB seems to be the most common configuration. The SE libraries do not require the same levels of RAM as there are fewer samples per articulation, and far fewer articulations. For all the SE libraries and MIR 24, you could likely do fine with just 16 gigs (the samples for SE 1, 1+, 2 and 2+ combined can run on 8 gigs). If you are intending to eventually add several full libraries (standard+extended), then starting with 32 gigs might not be a bad idea.

I have a full orchestral setup working on an 8gb RAM laptop, with room to spare. VSL is extremely efficient, especially compared to most other sample library developers, and the "Purge" function works wonders. Plus I have always had the feeling that developers overestimate the minimum system specs. So you should be just fine with 32 gigs!

Cyril, It's for a build. I was contemplating either the 2011 or 1155 chipset and the latter only holds 32GB max whereas the former will take 64GB. Processors would be either 4930k or 4770k. Drives for samples would be Samsung 840 EVO SSD.

I use RAID0 buildup for my VSL libraries and system disk. For me, loading all instruments with level 2 presets plus additional articulations is a bes choice for my symphonic composing. Usually, the project uses around 20GB RAM for an orchestra with picc, and all strings are overlaid with solo instruments, and chamber violins and violas for divisi use. If I add it to a large orchestra, it finally takes 30GB RAM. But I don't use MIR, and I think 32GB RAM is enough for a Stravinsky or Williams project. Some less virtuoso parts can be loaded using level 1 presets to save RAM. Haipeng
