  • Sibelius 6 / Vienna Ensemble Pro 5: Automation Mapping to NI Synths

    Hi All,,

I've searched on the forum and googled high and low and couldn't find what I was looking for. I'm hoping someone could explain step by step what you need to do to have Sibelius 6 automate different parameters on some of my Native Instruments synths (FM8, Massive). Here's what I tried:

    1) Create a seperate track / staff in Sibelius soley for automation

    2) Assign a different midi channel than the channel used for nototion / playback

    3) Open Automation Mapping in VEP and assign the new midi channel to, say, the master volume of fm8

    4) create a whole note with hairpin p<f and play back: nothing.

What am I doing wrong? Is that even the right way to do this?

Also - can you automate more than one parameter from one sibelius staff? (assuming that that's even the way to do it...)

    Thanks for your time!

  • Hello Loopchoir!

You don't need an extra staff for automation. Here's how I would do it.
    - Add an entry in the Automation Mapping window of VE Pro.
    - Select Source: MIDI Controllers/VE Pro Plugin MIDI 1/Channel of the instrument you want to control
    - Select Destination: Instrument you want to control/Parameter you want to control
    - Add MIDI Control Changes to the staff in Sibelius with the following syntax:
    ~Cxx,yy (xx=Control Change number, yy=value)

You can repeat these steps for different MIDI CCs and paramters.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

Thanks very much for the reply. How about if I want to make gradual changes, using CC changes in Sibelius (not a midi controller)? Say I have a 4/4 bar of straight 16th notes but I want to crescendo halfway through (a half's note worth of crescendo)? Is there a way to create that kind of gradual slope? Can I control CC's with hairpins somehow? If so, do you know how?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the help!

  • Hi Loopchoir!

In order to add multiple CCs for gradual changes you can use the Sibelius plugins "Add continous control changes" and "Cresc./Dim. Playback"

    Best,
    Andi
