  • Sib 7, One Instance, wrong articulations

Hi people. I am hoping that someone can help me.

I have run into a common problem that I cannot seem to fix. When I mixed my symphonies, I used four instances of instruments for the orchestra groups as it was easy to add an orchestra instrument without redoing Sibelius. As all the movements require only up to 16 instruments, I redid a version in one instance. I listed them in concert order. That is when my problems began.

The violin II and vla are playing mostly staccato. I switched the order of the strings and channels, but that did not help. I reloaded the instruments into VIP many times and redid Sibelius many times. The Woodwind, brass and typmani are fine. It is just the strings affected.

    Any ideas?

  • Hello thomamd!

I have seen in our records that you are using the Special Edition Volumes 1 and 2 (formerly called standard and extended), right?

    Please check the following things:
    - Did you load the latest version of the "VE Special Edition" sound set?
    - Did you load the correct Sibelius instruments? You should load Violin 1 (or I), Violin 2 (or II), Viola, Violoncello and Contrabass. The [VSL Orchestral Strings] and [VSL Chamber Strings] instruments are for our bigger instrument collections. If you are not sure, I would add the instruments once again, then cut and paste the content of the old staves to the new ones.
    - I recommend not making output and channel settings in the Sibelius mixer. This can mess up the playback. You can reset these settings by selecting (Auto) in all Sibelius mixer output devices.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks for answering, Andi.

I have discovered that many of the problems I was having were actually due to Sib 7! Most of the playback was correct, but in every song there was a couple of random wrong articulations. By deleting the offending note and re-entering it in Sib the error was fixed. Sometimes, pasting a "correct" section into a "wrong" section fixed the section.

There are not any articulation commands in the pieces other than dotting a note for staccato, but sometimes the articulation would change. I still do not know were the glissando came for 2 notes, but I liked the effect.
