  • [SOLVED] Vienna Imperial and Cubase 6.5.4 strange unmute issue

    Hi all,

I am working on an extremely simple project with only 3 tracks in Cubase 6.5.4.

    1.  Audio track recording

    2.  Tempo track

    3.  Vienna Imperial Instrument Track

For some reason, when I MUTE the Audio track, then RECORD ENABLE the Vienna Imperial track, press "record" to begin recording, the instant I hit the SUSTAIN PEDAL it removes the MUTE of my audio track.  Which is not highlighted, is not selected, is not record enabled, is not monitor enabled, nothing.

Is this a known bug or expected behavior?  can anyone else reproduce this for me please?  I am not in front of the DAW at the moment but maybe I am supposed to SOLO the instrument track instead?  I just don't ever remember seeing this strangeness before.  I am on all the most current Vienna Software, Windows 7 updates and Cubase.

    Thanks,

    Maestro2be

  • Sounds to me like the MIDI message from the sustain pedal is somehow mapped to that mute button. So this seems to be either a Cubase bug or some involuntary mapping you have there...

  • I just don't understand how there can be a map anywhere since it was literally a brand new project from scratch.  Add an audio file from import, add tempo track, add instrument track.  Hit mute, then record and boom I was being hit by the music.  I thought what the hell was that?

I then muted it again, highlighted my vienna imperial again, clicked record and it did it again.  The even more strange thing was it only did it if I was recording.  If I just highlight the Vienna Imperial track and hit the pedal it doesn't do it.  It's only if I hit record and touch the pedal during a recording.

Do you have a Cubase 6.5.4 machine to try it on?  Just add an audio track and import a file on it.  Add a tempo track, then add an instrument track.  Put vienna imperial on that instrument track and you're done.  Mute the audio track, click record on the vienna imperial and tell me if the audio track stays muted or not please.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Just tried on Win 7 and Cubase 6.5.1, not a problem.

    Downloading 6.5.5 (latest update) now.

Do you want to send your song to ?

Update: No troubles with C 6.5.5 either.... Anyone else?

    Best,

  • Hi guys,

So I am back in the studio and testing this.  It isn't just this song.  It does it even with a new song.  Additionally it does it with any virtual instrument loaded in the instrument track so it isn't a Vienna Imperial issue.  It has something to do with Cubase,  or as Karel said, a strange hidden mapping.

What I found is, it only unmutes "TRACK 1".  I added many other tracks and audio files and muted them all.  The sustain pedal seems mapped, to muting track 1, and unmuting track 1.  It cycles as I press the pedal, mute on/mute off.  It doesn't matter what type of track is in track 1, it mutes instrument tracks and audio tracks.  So it's not a track type specific.  It's a simple wrong command being sent somehow.

I am trying to find in Cubase where I would find such a mapping since I am only really familiar with Studio One.  Any ideas where it might be?  In studio one I can bring up a midi window that shows me the commands being sent from my controller but I can't find that in Cubase.

  • I just found the problem.  I plugged my keyboard directly into my Multiface 2, instead of my Arturia Controller and it's working as normal.  So somehow, the Arturia Controller is sending a mute on/mute off in Cubase when I use the sustain pedal from my digital piano that is plugged into it's midi in (so midi piano, to Arturia, to Multiface 2).

It appears that my Arturia must be setup wrong in Cubase.

EDIT - so I found out the problem is somewhere in my generic remote of Cubase for my controller.  I just don't know how to fix it lol.

  • OK never mind.

but yes, solo the one track and the other tracks are muted.
