  • Sibelius can't read sound sets

    Hi everybody

the day before yesterday I tried to new and renew all my sound sets. So I loaded them down, unziped them and copied them like alwasy in the Sibelius 5.2 folder "sounds". But when I started Vienna ensemble pro (in combination with MIR) and tried to configurate the Sibelius play back devices, the programm was not able to find all my sound sets. I tried this several times but i failed. I planed each step like in the video of the VSL homepage. No chance.

So please could anybody give me advice?

    kind regards

    Timo

  • Just to be sure - it's always important to update all eLicenser-related software on your system when installing new software that relies on its copy-protection. Open the eLicenser Control Panel and select "Update License Database" from the "Support"-menu. Maybe this cures the problem already. :-)

  • Hello Timo!

Please make sure that the sound set files (xml files) are copied to the correct location. The correct location depends on your operating system and Sibelius version. For Sibelius 5 these files have to be copied to one of the following folders:
Windows Vista, Windows 7 und Windows 8:
    Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds
    Windows XP:
    Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds
    Mac OS X:
    Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 5/Sounds

Under Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8 the Users/your username/Library folder is hidden by default. To get access go to the folder Users/your username. Then choose Go/Go to folder and enter “Library”.

If you are working on a Windows computer and Vienna Instruments & Vienna Ensemble do not appear in the list of available devices, you will have to “tell” Sibelius the path where your virtual instruments and effects are located. To do so, go to Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options/Virtual Instruments and Effects Folderand choose the path where you installed the Vienna Ensemble VST plugin (= the path where the file Vienna Ensemble.dll is located). Then restart Sibelius.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  •  Thank you so much for your help!

the problem is not solved jet, but there is some news. On my PC I found the old sound sets and so I copied them in the folder, where I have also the renewed ones. And: Sebelius found them without problem and I can use them in the normal way.

So it seems to me, that I don't have choosen the wrong folder. I also did what Dietz told me to do, but Sibelius can't still find the new sound sets.

Does anyone know what I could try next?

    Thanks a lot

    Timo

    Hi again,

    you initially wrote:

I hardly dare to ask: Did you actually _install_ the new sample data? The downloaded files are just binaries and not the data format used by a sample player.

  • Hello Timo!

Just to go for sure. You are actually talking about the Sibelius sound sets that we have made available in our User Area under Needful Things, right?

Please make sure to put the xml files without any subdirectories to the paths I have written above.

If you are using a Windows computer, please also remove sound sets that you may have copied to the folder C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds or on a German Windows version C:\Programme\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds

  •  Dear Andi,

ok. So now it seems clear, I have choosen the wrong  folder. Could you please write me the right path to the folder for a German Windos version ?

Thank you for the helping hand

    Timo

  • Hi Timo!

    Windows XP:
"Documents and Settings" is called "Dokumente und Einstellungen" in the German version.
"Application Data" is called "Anwendungsdaten" in the German version.

    Windows Vista, 7 and 8:
"Users" is called "Benutzer" in the German version.

Everything else is called the same as in the English version.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Hi, It's me again,

now the confusion is perfect. The path you wrote me does not exist on my PC. I searched everywhere: But nothing. On the hole PC I could not find a folder "APP Data".

And than I remarked, that there was an old Back up on harddisc D, where I save all the Instruments. In this back up version of the hole PC (from 2011), the way to the folder, where I have to copy the sound sets in, is traceable.

I absolutly don't know, what to do now? reinstall sebelius?

    kind regards

    Timo

    I

  • Hello Timo!

I guess the AppData folder is hidden on your system then. Hidden folders can be made visible under Tools/Folder Options/View/Show hidden files, folders, and drives. I am working on an English system here, so can't tell you the exact names of the menues in the German Windows version. Sorry that I didn't think about that earlier.

    Andi

  •  Hello again!

step by step we get nearer to the point of interest. I was able to find the hidden folders. And I found the the right path. I copied the XML files in the folder (I had to create him first)

Im working with Vienna ensemble pro (combined with MIR). I still use -like before- loop be 30 to connect MIR and Sibelius. And in the play back devices I find my MIDI ports (internal MIDI 1-x). When i select an internal midi, I could not see the downloaded sound sets. But in the list there is also an advice called "Vienna ensemble". When I select it I can finally see all the sound sets. Have I stell to use loop be 30 and the internal midi ports, or could I choose "Vienna ensemble? Sorry I never thought about that!

    Nice greetings from switzerland

    Timo

  • Hello Timo!

As far as I remember Sibelius 5 can use our sound sets only with VST- or AU-instruments, but not with MIDI ports. This shouldn't matter much, because I would recommend using the Vienna Ensemble Pro plugin directly (without LoopBe) and MIR inside anyway. If Vienna Ensemble Pro  doesn't appear in your available devices list, you have to point Sibelius 5 to the path, where you have installed the Vienna Ensemble Pro VST-instrument (32 bit).  This can be done in the Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options menu. If you don't remember that location, search for the file "Vienna Ensemble Pro.dll".

    Greetings from Vienna,
    Andi

  •  Hello one more time,

I'm really sorry, but the steps in solving the problem are so small... (and I'am not very gifted in computer things). The good news: my sibelius playback device can finally find now the Sound sets. I opend three instances of vienna ensemble pro and added all my instruments and saved the device. But when I open Vienna instrument pro and add a new instrument I could only choose for MIDI in one instance called "Vienna instruments MIDI". So i could not switch between the three vienna ensemble instances in my sibelius playback device.

    AND

If I enter a note in Sibelius I could not hear something when I let play the score. And the ensembel pro server interface does show "not connected". And even if I try I could not connect. So at the moment everything goes wrong.

    What can I do next?

  • Hello Timo!

I have sent you an e-mail.

    Best,
    Andi
