  • Custom Percussion Mapping

Hi, I just purchased Special Edition Percussion. I've been using Miroslav Philharmonik for percussion. Miroslav has an "Orchestral Percussion Set", which is a patch of most frequently used orchestral percussion instruments (bass, snares, cymbals, percussion, etc), mapped up and down the keyboard. Is it possible for me to recreate that same exact mapping in a custom patch in Vienna Special Edition Percussion? I know I can pull up various instruments and assign them to one midi channel, but I'd rather create them together as one patch if possible. Thanks, Michael

  • You can load the *patches* into a *matrix* and have a row or dimensions of rows to switch to and from. In addition you can create more than one matrix and save a 'preset'. and load all that you're about to use at once. You can work with one midi track/channel with that, but you'll be switching via key or controller to get to the next *patch*.

the SE Perc does use patches of more than one instrument arranged on the keyboard, eg., 'Cymbals/Gongs'. there isn't a way to remap that, I don't believe.

  • Hi, thanks very much for answering. Yeah, I was thinking about the Matrix and wondering if there was someway to create that kind of patch using that without having to switch between samples. But I couldn't think of any, and your post confirms that it won't be possible. Well, I guess I'll have to change the way I use percussion. I'll just set up the different patches to use the same MIDI channel. The recording process will be more involved that what I'm used to, but the benefit is that I can output each patch to a different output, and thus have much greater editing control over each type of instrument.

    Hi GigEm,

You can also check out VI PRO that lets you stack up to 16 patches and assign various key-ranges to each patch (on the virtual keyboard in "Advanced View", use the two buttons in the right upper corner of the keyboard), then transpose them according to your needs.

A free demo license of VI PRO is available on the product page (make sure you are logged in and click "try").

    Videos for VI PRO.

    Best,

    Paul

  • VI Pro provides separate outputs for matrices when you have more than one, so you can treat them differently as channel strips, diff EQ etc.

  • Thank you. I would love to be able to purchase VE Pro and especially VI Pro. So many goodies in both.
