  • Brass - what to buy first

I will shortly be able to purchase some new brass samples - though unfortunately not the full brass bundle.

Should I purchase Brass I (& II) before purchasing Dimension brass or does DB work well on its own?

Most of my work is in the classical / cinema / jazz areas (I generall use Chris hein Horns for Big Band sections).

    Points of view very welcome.

  • Dimension Brass is a fantastic library, but it is best used for ensemble work.  If you're looking for a lot of solo work with dozens of articulations, I would start with the Brass I& II Libraries.  All of the Brass Libraries are excellent, but it just depends on what you need done.

  • I thought that would be the case.

    Thanks for the advice.

  • Perhaps a good compromise would be to buy DB, then using your free download instrument download the Tuba or Trombone since they're part of the low brass section and some of the only instruments you don't get "solo" in DB.  Or just chip in the extra little bit and buy both the tuba and trombone, so you basically have the whole section as individuals.
