  • SSD and RAM issue

    Hi everyone !

I recently bought an SSD drive to boost my setup by increasing the amount of sample i'm able to load. I decreased the preload size to about 1500k, and got approximatively ten time less things loaded in the ram...

    According to vienna instruments pro.

Because if I look into the windows task manager, i got much more stuff going on. When i load something about 400MB according to vienna instruments, it takes about 1.3 GB according to the task manager... And i know the task manager isn't completely out, because i tried to max it out, and when it comes close to 16GB (my maximum) in the task manager, my computer really starts to lag.

So, does anyone know what's going on?

    Thx,

    David Jacomy

  • Nobody ?

If this is the way it's supposed to work, just tell me. I just want to be sure that i'm not wasting my computer ressources on some weird bug.

    Thx,

    David Jacomy

  • Some notes on memory usage of VIPro:

    - The streaming engine of VIPro is shared between all instances, so the first instance will use a lot of memory, but when another instance of VIPro is added, it will only use 1-1.5MB of RAM.

    - The memory usage of the streaming engine changes with the voice settings in preferences.

    - Not only sample preloads will use RAM, but also presets and patches, especially for very involved presets with sequencing and a lot of humanization pitchgraphs etc. This will also add to the memory usage, but cannot be accounted for in the RAM usage meter in VIPro. The RAM display in VIPro is for sample preload only.

To find out the real-world memory usage of a specific preset/patch, a good procedure would be to take note of the memory usage of VIPro (or VEPro) when the first VIPro instance has been loaded, then again after your preset has been loaded. The difference would be the real impact of the loaded preset or patch.

  • Thx !

    I suppose everything's working correctly, then !
