Clicks and Pops
Hi all at VSL, First of all congratulations on Dimension Cellos. They sound beautiful! Here's my problem, I'm a slightly new Vienna user so please excuse my ignorance. I'm using VI Pro with Pro Tools 11, and running Dimension Strings (Violins and Cellos obviously). I am using Vienna Ensemble Service (64bit), and that is opening up with my project fine. I load either violin or cello into VE service (out of Pro Tools, and controlled by a MIDI track in Pro Tools) and all works fine except for a click or pop every 5 - 10 seconds, and I can't seem to find an answer to why. CPU on PT is very low (3% or something), and on VE only about 14% with all cellos and all violins large groups loaded. My audio sample library for dimension strings is installed on a separate external drive (120Gb Elgato Thunderbolt SSD), but VI Pro and VE is installed on my system drive. Is this ok? Some stats to help: Late 2011 MBP 13" 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 8GB RAM OS X 10.8.4 Pro Tools 11 Mbox 2 (usb) Pro Tools H/W buffer size : 1024 samples Pro Tools "ignore errors during playback and record" : unticked Pro Tools "dynamic plugin processing" : unticked I have also tried all VE latency settings. I realise that my MBP is no longer supported under Pro Tools 11, but has just dropped off the list and don't believe this to be the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Sam

Its porbably a few issues.
1) fresh boot your system
2) what sound card are you using?
3) do you have the latest drivers/ did you do an update or check for updates and install them
4) Mac Books come with the Intel onboard and and the dedicated one, you need to got to " Graphics card switching , more the slider to " High Performance
5) under " Energy saver" make sure the : Automatic graphics card switching is not " ticked"
6) verify and check all physical connections( USB , etc)
Get back to me
Cheers, JRM

Hi JRM, thanks for the reply. 1) Done 2) Im running a mbox 2, so I thought that replaces the 'built in' soundcard option 3) Yes latest drivers, did a fresh PT11 install and all drivers straight after 4) & 5) Cannot quite find either of these options 6) One USB cable and its perfect It may have calmed down a little bit, need more time testing though. Thanks for your help

Im running a mbox 2,...hmm well let me put it this way, if you are still having issues may I suggest the Babyface, the best lowest latency usb DAC/ Soundcard you can get.
I am getting as low as 32 samples, no pops and clicks or dropouts.
Have just tried the Mbox with simple audio playback using ASIO, just play a song without PT, what are your " device settings" in PT for the Mbox?
Cheers, JRM

Just a wild guess - what number of threads do you have in VE Pro MIR settings? I noticed that having the value of 2, for example, will not load all the CPU cores, so it have to be increased up to 8. I think this is stated in the manual, though. Shouldn't be a problem with the load you report, but you never know...
