  • looking for a solo viola

hi, i am looking for a solo viola instrument. which vsl product would be the best in terms of samples and overall costs. i`ve been looking in the vsl product and i am not sure what the difference is between the "solo strings collection" and the "SE Vol. 1 strings". can somebody help me out? thanks.

  • SE will be much cheaper, but Solo Strings is a really awesome string library.  I can't even recommend it enough.  Much more articulations and dynamics.

  • By far the best, though not the least expensive, is Solo Strings Standard + Extended.  The extended portion of the library add many additional key bowing techniques, and also a variety of dynamics artculations.  In the long run, if you are looking to do complex writing, there is no real substitute for it, and the articulations cover much greater depth than the solo libraries of "the noble competition".

Another difference between SE and the full library is that SE is sampled by whole step, while the full libraries are sampled by half step.

  • I don't yet have Extended, but I'm drooling over the articulation list.  And I feel like just the original Solo Strings Standard comes with a ton of useful articulations, so when I see how many I'm missing it really makes me feel like once I finally get it I really won't need any other solo strings, ever.  Though I can always think of SOME missing articulations I'd like to have, this is pretty definitive.  VSL did the dozen-types-of-legato thing before it went mainstream :oP

  • thank you. over the years what i have learned is to think about what i really need at that point of my personal production level. so, right now i feel that i am at the very beginning of working with strings. i started with the viola - playing around with that dsk free vst - and what i need or want from a better vst or samples, is to have a nice legato play and some more options to move on. the total cost is a very big point, as i am a student and don`t have that much money to spend. maybe someone can tell if it would be ok going for the SE for now or if it would be *a waste of money* because the solo strings have that much more to offer?

  • finally i have the full solo strings 1 library and it`s really a blast and everything you need is in there. but i have to say that i think it is a must to have the full library. maybe someone has to make the same choice like me and now i can can say i am glad i went with the solo strings

  • Hi, after a HD crash I tried to re-install Solo Strings and it is not working. An error message tell me to copy the installer from the CD to the hard drive but this not working too. Do you know if an installer update is available somewhere for OSX?

    Thanks

    Hello Bernard,

I have answered your mail to our Support Team 2 minutes ago.

Please use the Library Installer that comes with the latest Vienna Instruments Software. Launch it and follow the instructions.
The Library Installer contained on the DVD´s is REALLY old now 😊

    Best,
    Paul
