  • VI Pro and MIDI Time Code sync

I don't have VI Pro yet, but I wondered if there is a way to sync the speed control and glissando length to MIDI time code?

If not, this would be a great feature to add, especially for speed control.

    Thanks,

    Michael

No, this is not currently possible. I also think that for it to be possible there would have to be tempo information embedded within the sample itself, which there isn't.

  • Michael, are you sure that you really mean to say MTC (MIDI Time Code) and not MIDI Clock? The former wouldn't make much sense in any case. VI Pro will sync to MIDI Clock, though.

    Kind regards,

  •  PS: MTC is about position, MIDI Clock about tempo.

  • (Sorry using wrong terms, yes I mean MIDI clock)

My main idea was for legato and detache patches. Instead of having to tweek the speed control slider, it could sync to MIDI clock so VI Pro would actually be getting a BPM. Then for speed control you could set it for quarter note or longer would play slow legato, 8th note or faster short legato/detache etc... (Just a quick example)

I think you are right that for gliss duration some additional info would have to be encoded in either the sample or in the player so it knew how long the original sample was, then it could figure out how long the sample needs to be stretched out or compressed in time.

Speed control sync would actually be very useful to me (gliss not as important) because I use my VSL libraries to play them live with a Ztar midi controller, run through a very complex program that I wrote in Max that is able to analyze the tempo I'm playing at (among tons of other things). Also, it would be nice if you are playing  a piece from a sequencer, and want to vary the tempo to have the articualtions automatically change without having to readjust the speed control settings.
