  • Kontakt Memory

I wanted some advice about VE Pro / Kontakt Settins. I've just upgraded my rig to include 2 Mac Minis (16GB RAM each) running my libraries in Kontakt 5 in VE Pro.These are slaved to my Mac Pro (2x3GHZ Quad) running DP 8. Each Mac Mini has a 500GB SSD drive which runs programs AND samples. My Mac Pro is on OS 10.6.8. Minis are on OS10.8.3 (I've no good reason to update the Mac Pro right now....unless something forces me to). I'm installing big libraries on the Minis - Cinesamples, Cinematic Strings, Symphobia etc. I'm curious specifically, in Kontakt, what people set their (universal) "Instrument Preload Buffer" to? And whether there's any need to use the Kontakt Memory Server while Kontakt is in VE Pro 5?... Thanks! CT

  • It is advisable to not use the Kontakt memory server in VE Pro, that's what I've read from VSL. I set Kontakt's preload buffer to 12kb with SSD's.

But you should check for the lowest possible setting depending on how many samples you're streaming at once. It may be less or more.

  • Great - thank you! Yes 12kb seems like a good setting with SSDs. I'll find out for sure when I start using heavily!... cheers
