    Hey everyone,

    First, I know... I KNOW I shouldn't be posting this here. I'll understand if it's deleted. lol But I'm struggling to figure something out and thought that maybe my VSL friends would have an answer. It seems like half of everyone on here lives in europe anyway. Maybe I can get some insider advice. [;)]

    My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for next April. In order (and by train mostly)... London, Paris, (????), Venice, (maybe Florence), Rome. We want to go somewhere in the Swiss/German/Austrian area after Paris. That is very vague, I know. Also, this part of the trip we want to avoid heavy tourism and keep it small, friendly, more local, etc.

    I keep thinking I'm going to screw this and something else up. 1) Am I a sucker if I get a eurail pass? Is there a cheaper way to get around? 2) Where do I go for the ????

    I'm lost.

    If you go to London - will you be hoping to meet any English people?

    We'd love to meet anyone really. I'd rather meet someone and get a bite to eat somewhere they like to go (or whatever) instead of stay stuck in tourist traps all day. We do want to see museums, landmarks, and tourist traps to a point. But we want to limit that time. Our goal is 50% sight seeing and 50% doing things less busy and more relaxed. So by all means, yes! lol

    Hi Sean,

    Some quick hints... Depending on what your main focus is when thinking of Austria/Germany/Switzerland - big or small cities, culture or mountains? - I'd recommend Berlin and obviously Vienna for big cities (and culture), and for mountains and culture rather something like Salzburg and Salzkammergut in Austria or Vierwaldstätter See / Lake Lucern in Switzerland. 😊

    Salzburg might be a little touristy but it's only a couple of hours drive from Salzkammergut whose lakes are breathtaking and less travelled (depending on where you go, however). Switzerland is a bit more pricey in general, but some say that the swiss huge mountains are almost more beautiful than the ones Austria can provide - depending on if you ask Austrians or Swiss people. 😉

    Eurail should be a good choice, in my eyes, if I recall correctly it's also a good option in terms of value. However, for some destinations off the beaten path you might need / want to rent a car instead.

    Salzkammergut may have a few locations that we're probably after. I've been to Salzburg and Lucern, but I was a with a group, a typical tourist. We want to go somewhere old and beautiful (a bit cliche of us, I know), but mainly small where most people aren't visitors like ourselves. We'd rather go somewhere where we can enjoy scenery but also meet people, etc.

    And for the record, I liked the mountains in Austria just fine. ;)

    If you go to London you won't meet anyone from England. You'll think the plane got detoured. I would leave out London if I were you. It's a shithole.

    Amsterdam is not that far by plane from London (40 minutes flight or so). Highly recommended, and of course: visit Het Concertgebouw!

    We were on our honeymoon in Dubai. It was unforgettable. We have organized a luxurious stay and a limo. Tlt Limo http://tlt.ae rentals are the absolute best for any production needs. The staff is always nice and very helpful. The vehicles are always clean and in tip top shape. They bend over backwards to accommodate me. 

    very happy to have found this place and looking forward to our rental this weekend.

    About 20 years ago I did some hiking around Innsbruck, Austria and had a great time.  But I was young and single and that was during the Summer.  Not sure what gems Spring time in the Alps would bring.  I couldn't vouch for Innsbruck now but if you enjoy mountain scenery I would recomend at least a day there.

    Nowadays, if I want breathtaking mountain scenery I go to Bariloche, Argentina.  You get the great European style out there without the high European prices (although the dallor is about equal to the Eduro now).  A lot of European expats live in Bariloche so it feels like a quaint village in the Alps somewhere.

    My wife and I took a vacation to Europe a few years back and I would have to agree with PualR but only extend it to nearly all of the major European cities as they have become more cosmopolitan over the years.  Not to contradict Stephen, he lives there so he would probably know better than me, but we started our leg in Berlin and the only Germans we met were the ones on the plane getting there.  They recommended going to smaller towns in the countryside and I'm glad they did because I actually admire German culture.  We met a lot of nice people who were glad to see us and made our stay there very hospitible.  Then we went to Switzerland and I could go on and on...

    Anyway, congratulations and have great time.

    Maybe Elisha is thinking like Mongolia and Outer Mongolia.  Dubai would be considered Outer Europe wouldn't it?  More Like WAY Outer Europe.
