  • Using Special edition on a second computer

    Hi there

I recently upgraded my 2011 Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.8)  to 16Gb RAM... actually more RAM than all the computers I've ever owned put together :-)

I'd like to install and run my Special Edition extended version on this machine, and wondered if its as simple as installing the DVD's, and the Synchrosoft license control. Ideally I'd like to be able to run it from time to time on my Mac Pro, but never the two simultaneously.

Any help with tips, tricks, short cuts, pitfalls much appreciated, thanks!

    Chris

  • you need two dongles, one for each computer. there are up to three licences for the software (ensemble/pro, instrument/pro) but there's only one licence for the libraries. one dongle get's the software and the sample libraries, the other the software only. i use vsl on my macpro or on a macmini server... changing from time to time. for that i simply switch the two dongles. the installation is easy and exactly the same as on the first computer. i just copied my complete vsl folder from my main machine which is much faster than running all the dvds. but you have to install the software from the website and run the directory manager once. as far as i know you need the dongle-software only once to "feed" the dongles. so i is not nessecary to have it installed on both computers.

  • Thanks!   ... So even if I am only using one of the macs at a time - never together - I still need a second dongle?

  • if you don't want to use one of the computers as a slave for the other you just need one dongle.

  • Ah, excellent news, thanks !
