  • Intergration of VE PRo5 on Mac Mini Slave and Vienna Instruments Pro2 on MacPro Help

I could use some input on getting VE Pro 5 up and running on my new Mac mini slave. I apologize in advance if this is a basic question. I am using a Macpro (OSX 10.6.8) dual quad core for my main machine, running Logic 9.1.8. I have a multitude of software, including VSL Special Edition VOl 1 and 2, various other instruments, Vienna Ensemble Pro 5, Vienna Instruments Pro 2, Vienna Suite etc. I recently purchased a Mac Mini (2.6G i7, 16G Ram, internal 512 SSD, internal 1TB SSD)(OSX 10.8.3) to act as a slave using VE Pro5 I had previously tested VE Pro 5 and it runs fine on my Macpro. I installed eLicenser, with the 2nd licenses for VEPro5, and Vienna Suite onto the eLicenser dongle in the Mac Mini. I installed VE PRo 5 and Vienna Suite on the MacMini. SO far so good. VE Pro5 boots on the Mac Mini. Logic boots on the Macpro. I can connect, and VEPro5 64 bit server is seen by logic. The problem is that Vienna Instruments is not loaded on the MacMini. I have dragged the various samples onto the internal drive on the MacMini, but when I go to add a plugin channel, VI is not there. I can load Apple AU Sampler, and there is communication with the Macpro and Macmini, but that is as far as I can get. I am wondering if I have to instal a license for VI Instruments pro on the 2nd eLicenser on the Mac Mini. IF that is the case, do I use the same authorization as on the MacPro? I don't want to delete the license on my MacPro, since that is my main computer. If that is the case, then I assume that I will have to authorize each of the instruments on that licenser as well. If so, same question, do I just use the same authorization code? Lastly, since I use a lot of other sameples (everything from BFD to Samplemodeling, Ivory etc), do those all have to be installed on the Mac Mini as well to use them on the Mac Mini slave in VE Pro 5? Many thanks Steven

  • Sounds like you just need to install VI Pro on the slave...

  • Bill, thanks for the reply.

I assume you are correct, but I am not really sure how to do that, since while I have the serial number for my VI Instruments Pro2 (which is installed on the MacPro and licensed on the eLicencer connected to the MacPro), I do not have an activation code (I can't remember receiving it or writing it down - it is long ago), so I have no way of putting it on the eLicenser that is on the Mac Mini.

Also, assuming that I get it on there, the issue still is how to access the samples.  I would like them to reside on my Mac Mini external connected thunderbolt drive (to take the load of my MacPro).  However, does that require a second license for each of the libraries.  The eLicenser on my Mac Mini won't accept the activation codes for the libraries, since they are residing on the eLicenser on the MacPro.

I need to keep the libraries on both computers, since I want to be able to access them either  through Vienna Ensemble (on the Mac Mini) and directly through Logic and Vienna Instruments (on the MacPro) as a plugin to Logic without going through Vienna Enemble on the MacMini.

    I appreciate the help.

  • You should find all activation codes on the registration page of your User Area.

The sample content can be installed multiple places, but you can only use it on the system that has the license on the eLiecener dongle, in your case, just move the license to the MAC Mini dongle.

  • Thanks Bill.  The serial number is in the user area, so I am able to get an activation code from the serial number.  The problem is the when I put that in, and try to activate the license, it has a problem, since it is activated on the dongle attached to the MacPro.  I would have to deactivate the MacPro (I assume) to activate the dongle on the Mac Mini.  This is a problem, since I still want to use VSL on the Mac Pro.

Are you saying that I can not have the software running on both?  This is odd, since the license for VE pro comes with 3 licenses, meaning y can run 3 slaves.  It would be odd if one had to buy 3 versions of VIenna Instruments Pro and 3 sets of libraries to run 3 slaves.  Perhaps I am not following you.

in essence, I would like to have Vienna Instruments Pro and my libraries of sounds on the Mac Pro so I can load individual not often used patches into an arrangement, and also have Vienna Instruments Pro and my libraries on the Mac Mini using Vienna Ensemble pro so I can have templates of various orchestral and big band sounds.  Am I mis-guided and can this not be done unless I purchase a second Vienna Instruments Pro and second set of libraries, which would be cost prohibitive?

    Thanks again for the reply.

  • You should have 3 serial numbers for VE Pro and 4 serial numbers for VI Pro. You can't use the same serial on 2 different keys.

I don't have SE, so don't know how the liecenses are setup.  With individual download instruements you're free to register each on the vienna key that you want.  But each liecense can only be on one key (NOT the software, of course).  So if you have SE strings have 1 liecense, and the Strings are liecensed on the Mac Mini, you won't be able to have the violas on the Mac Pro. Etc

  • Thanks Bill.  I will contact VSL to get the additional serial numbers and ask them about SE.

    Thanks again for the reply.

  • Bill, I was able to get the additional activation codes for my VI Pro 2 (Ilio was very kind and referred me to the date of the email which they sent with the serial numbers, so I was able to put those into the registration area and get the additional activation codes).I installed the activation code for VI Pro 2 and it worked.

Unfortunately you are right about the libraries.  According to Ilio, I cannot have the instruments on both my host and slave computer.  In other words, I have to chose which of the two computers has an active license. This is unfortunate, since some all of my previous work has the VSL instruments on the host computer.  If I switch the license to the MacMini slave computer, the earlier work will not run (without going in, setting it up through Vienna Ensemble).  More importantly, since the MacMini is limited to 16G of Ram, there may be some limitations on how large the templates are that I can set up through VE.  I wish I had known this in advance. It certainlyh doesn't make sense to buy 2nd copies of the VSL libraries that I own just to have them authorized on both computers - Although it would be great if VSL made this an option, either for a nominal fee, or included in the cost of the libraries.

Oh well, live and learn.  I will now start on organizing some templates, and seeing if I can structure the slave in a way that makes sense.

Many thanks again for all of your input and assistance.

  • You could always just sawp the keys when you open the older projects.

Which libraries do you have?  I thought SE had options to split them up (a little bit).  Maybe it's just the whole volumes that can be split.
