     I've been test driving the Vienna Suite and, so far, I find it to be a very well designed, intuitive, user friendly, and sounds fantastic. 

    However, I'm a bit confused as to when to use the hybrid reverb and when to use the convolution reverb.  I understand the difference between the two but do you use the convolution reverb for individual tracks then the hybrid for the final mix (is hybrid more of a mastering reverb) or can you use the Hybrid for both individual tracks and final mix.

    Does it matter?  Is it all just a matter of taste?

    How do others use the two reverb tools.

    In general, Hybrid Reverb is the tool of choice as soon as you don't aim for a seemingly "real" room impression, but for a more artificial (maybe "bigger than life") result. The algorithmic part of Hybrid Reverb allows for modulation of the reverb tail, something that wouldn't happen in a real hall - still our ears somehow like the acoustic "richness" achieved by this technique.

    In many cases (especially when working on a more "organic" overall sound) the additional CPU load imposed by Hybrid Reverb is not really necessary for believable results. OTOH, it's not uncommon to use "pure" IRs for authentic placement of individual signal sources, and to add one overall algorithmic "sweetening reverb" for more "excitement". (... MIR Pro offers it's algorithmic reverb add-on called MIRacle for exactly this kind of workflow).

    But in the end, it will always be a matter of taste. :-)

     Hello Dietz,

    Thank you for your response.  Hybrid reverb seems to work better, for my tastes anyway, as an overall reverb for the entire mix but the tails need to be treated carefully as they can tend to muddle things a bit.

    BTW, great idea to add the Goniometer.  For some larger mixes, analyzers can be overwhelming to try and keep everything in perspective so thank you for giving us a KISS option.
