Dimension strings playability ?
I am looking at purchasing dimension strings and was just wanted to know how playable the library is. Is it possible to play fast moving legato lines ? Is it better than La scoring strings ? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

LA Scoring strings does not even register next to Dimension Strings, because it is old sampling technology. The innovation of the Dimension recording technique is unmatched by other libraries, because it allows simultaneous solo manipulation of ensembles. This is still not fully understood by people in general in how much it affects performance, and is second only to the VSL legato in how much it affects realism.
If you wish an out of the box limited sound, you could get LASS but the other VSL libraries are already better, and Dimension simply blows everything else off the map. This is not speculation either, I am obsessed with this library after using it, and seething with ideas about how to use it in more ways! Especially combinations with the other ensembles of VSL, which it blends with perfectly, and yet adds an immense complexity. I have had many pieces played live, and the VSL strings combined with Dimension and VI are the only way to get the complexity of sound that live instruments have.

Thanks for all that great info. I am absolutely buying. I have LASS and Adagio and am not happy with them at all. I am excited to get this, it will be my 1st VSL instruments buy. Thanks again.

Hi Jamie, VSL's legatos are the best in the business. All their libraries, including Dimension Strings, can handle fast-moving legato lines.
As you probably know, the big difference between this and other string libraries is that DS gives individual access to each player. That means that in order to hear the whole 8-piece violin ensemble you have to load eight patches, which is more demanding on system resources than regular libraries. (Thankfully, VSL supply 'All Violins' presets which automatically load eight patches per articulation!)

Buy without reservation. Dimension Strings are not only the most versatile string library, but they sound awesome, and they are incredibly fast and easy to write authentic melodies. These are instruments .. not sample libraries .. at least they sure feel like full on instruments, with extremely good players.
