  • If you have MIR, do you really need Vienna Suite

    Hello

Not having used MIR since 8 month because the buiding of my new studio, and as my studio is in pieces I am not abel to test Vienna Suite (2 more month to wait !)

When starting using MIR user have reported that you dont need to do any more correction on the Vienna instruments !

My trials confirm that almost a year ago.

May I have your comments !

There's no doubt that MIR Pro makes traditional approaches to mixing look a bit antiquated 😉, and less individual signal-processing is needed for fast and convincing results. But while MIR Pro offeres a unique combination of possibilities all by itself, I think a well-sorted toolbox like Vienna Suite is always a good thing to have - especially when you plan to work with 3rd party libraries an/or raw audio data, too.

    - Compressor, Limiter, Multi-Band Limiter ... I couldn't mix without them (especially not without the Compressor's "FAT"-mode 8-) ...)

    - Analyzer, Goniometer ... we can't mix with our eys, but sometimes a quick "second opinion" is all that's needed

    - Powerpan ... actually part of VE Pro (disguised as Channel Pan and as Matrix Mixer), but especially for Logic users a highly useful tool in any case.

    - Exciter ... for some this plug-in alone was reason enough to get Vienna Suite.

    - EQ, Master EQ ... well, MIR Pro comes with its own EQ plug-in which is a close relative to Vienna Suite's Master EQ, but my hand-crafted presets were made for Vienna Suite.

    - Hybrid Reverb, Convolution Reverb ... although it's not so obvious at the first glance: A dedicated convolution plug-in can be necessary even when working with MIR Pro. Specialized IR-sets like Numerical Sound's SERT/FORTI collections rely on it.

.. I hope this makes your decision a bit easier.

  • Hi Dietz

Thanks very much for your answer.

In my message I have specify "for Vienna Instrument"

For the other synth I can always process them in Logic before sending them to Mir

Also I would like to hear from end users

  • Yes because you may want to do post processing after the reverb.

  • even restricted to VSL instruments, the exciter and the tailored presets for EQ and Compressor makes VS really essential in my view.

also per the Hybrid Reverb, the cross-feed of the After Reflections (tail) control works [higher percentage = even distribution] to concentrate or diffuse the effects of that according to the placement, such as is so well-visualized in Power Pan.

  • Using the older MIR SE, and not having the Suite, all I can say is that I would add it in a heartbeat, had RL not intervened resulting in an ongoing extended delay (as well as delaying my intended upgrade to MIR Pro).  There simply is a level of detailed tone sculpting on an instrument by instrument basis that cannot be done in MIR.  MIR alone certainly sounds extremely good, but it is clear to me that adding the Suite would provide the potential to make things even better.

  • I have the Cube and I use the Vienna Suite with FORTI/SERTI as my secret weapon of choice. On my test examples, I often get, "wow, what library is that?"
