  • Is it possible to use Notion with download instruments?

I was wondering whether it is possible to use Notion with download instruments (e.g. orchestral strings) in such a way as to access the full range of available articulations. If anyone has any tips on how to do this I'd be very grateful. I've tried using a different staff for the CC-Switches but that didn't seem to work, as the next note without a new CC-Switch was articulated according to the standard rules. I thought maybe i could define my own rules (and presets) but I'm not sure how to go about defining my own Notion rules.

Or would I need to change to Sibelius or Finale to make full use of all articulations within a notation program?

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Duncan

  • One option is to load the SE instrument from the score setup palette, then replace the patches with those from the full instrument.  You can then use a couple of sequencer staves for keyswitches and Mod Wheel to select additional articulation/variations.

  •  Hi Bill,

Thanks for your reply. I've given your suggestions a brief try and in principle it seems to work. The key switches didn't change notes played simultaneously but only those played after the key switch. Sometimes the effect wasn't what I was expecting (e.g. no sound) but maybe that had something to do with the peculiarities of the patch selected. I need to investigate it a bit more but thanks again for giving me a point to start from.

  • The keyswitch has to occur slightly before the note it effects.  If you press the Tab key to switch into the sequencer overlay mode, you can drag the beginning of a note to make it happen first.

  •  Hi Bill,

Thanks a lot for the tip. I got it to work. Now, if I could find a way to mark the staff with all the keyswitches and automatically shift the starting point slightly to the left it would simplify matters a bit ; )
