  • Sibelius/VSL Dynamics

I'd like to solicit some opinion on the best way to achieve the following in Sibelius, when using the VSL solo strings library and associated Sibelius Soundsets.

    1.  "crescendo from silence" or a "diminuendo to silence"?  There is a Sibelius line for that, but I don't think VSL responds to it, unless I'm doing something wrong.

    2.  A string swell (cres./decres.) of each individual note?

    Thanks for the feedback!

  • Hello bogtownmusic!

In order to have crescendo and diminuendo on individual notes I recomend using Velocity X-Fade. You can find more about that in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual, page 17.

The Sibelius symbols crescendo from silence and diminuendo to silence have the same effect as normal hairpins. In order to have the desired effect, you will additionally need a "ppp" mark at the beginning (or end) of the hairpin. You can then hide this command.

    Best regards,
    Andi
