I wonder if Trumpet in C (Muted) includes various types of mutes. Like with Jazzy feel or even Cartoony feel. For example like bubble mute(stem or without steam), straight mute, cup mute or harmon mute.

Trumpet in C (Muted) Question

Ironically it's a harmon mute and only a harmon mute. I sure wish there were others and for the life of me can't understand why they chose that one. If a single mute had to be chosen I would have chosen a standard straight mute but that's not what we have with VSL. The best thing would have been straight, cup and harmon which would be the most common.
-
well that is really a shame, big shame actually because a Harmon Mute or Bubble Mute with Wah Wah stem would be nice if you want to compose kinda like gershwin style and cartoony stuff, I go foward for that stuff. I'm kinda disappointed that sometimes I use the harmon mute (for trumpets atleast) in music due to the fact that I really like the sound of it but if that what VSL offers, well lets use it :).
-
In this case it's a harmon mute without the stem, so if it's not too exposed it can sound like a straight mute. But I hear what you're saying. I'm not sure if there are any libraries that do a wah wah sound. The Garritan Jazz and Big Band library might have that but I'm not positive.
-
No, there are no libraries that do the wah wah mute. In conclusion, that's really, really disappointing. I think VSL should do it in a future update (in my opinion) because that would be really special for some composers out there that could use these. Really, there could :)
Love VSL, always.

I think you're right. The garritan JABB library has plunger so you can get an open/close effect (think Woodchopper's ball) but not a wha wha like a harmon mute with the stem. And of course that library sounds.......very different from VSL.
I guess my point is VSL really caters to more classical music and I would estimate straight mute is much more common than a harmon mute. I suppose a harmon mute is more contemporary but I just don't see it being used that much in an orchestral/classical setting very often.
Oh well. I still love VSL too.
EDIT:
Also I just looked at the single muted trumpet description and it does say straight mute. In fact it says they use a custom made damper to meet the specs of the silent stage. So maybe I'm wrong. I only have the SE muted trumpets and trombones so maybe they're different.

The WarpIV trumpet (and the trombone) provides wah articulations. As plunger and harmon stem.
