  • SE Performance Legato Questions

When playing a phrase using a performance legato patch, does the first note use a different sample then the notes that come after it? For example if I play legato C, D, C, E, C, does the first C play a different sample with a different attack then the C’s that come after it? (I think this is how it works but I wanted to make sure)

Also, I know that you can “restart” a legato patch by having a small gap in time between notes being played. I wanted to know if there is any other way to “restart” a legato patch so it plays the first note of the patch without having a gap in time before the initial note.

The reason I ask is because I’m using the SE with a very complex program I’ve written in Max that is playing notes in real time from user input via midi guitar and I can’t have a delay between notes (no matter how small)

Thanks for any advice or tips!

  • As for the first question, each transition is sampled, so each C you mentioned will sound different depending on the note you're coming from. As for the other questions, I'll leave that to someone smarter than I.

    Hi,

If you are using VI PRO, you can adjust the Interval Threshold of each performance legato in the "Advanced" tab of the Advanced View. See page 42 of the VI PRO manual.

To check out VI PRO, simply order a demo license on the product page (click "try").

These demo licenses work for 30 days/30 starts.
Once the 30 starts are used up, you can recharge them as often as you like by clicking "Maintenance" in the eLicenser Control Center (within 30 days).

    Best,

    Paul

Thanks Paul. What is the lowest threshold in ms that Interval Threshold can be set to?

I'm in the middle of a big project now, but as soon as I'm done I'm going to try out VI Pro. How many licenses do you get when you purchase it? Does each instance only support 1 midi channel at a time? I'm asking because until now I've just used VE for all of my playback and mixing, and I get the impression that the VE's and VI's maybe designed for slightly different purposes.

    1. 5ms
    2. 3 licences
    3. Just load VIP into VE rather than VI
