  • CC11 reacting oddly

Why does CC11 jump around noticeabley when the dynamic level and patch don't change? And how can I stop it.

  • I have the same question (I'm using Finale).  I can change a dynamic from forte to piano and it still plays back forte after the change.  Clearing performance data, etc. has no affect; it still plays loud.  Drives me crazy.

  • No this is a Sibelius problem. VSL reacts to changes in dynamic markings and hairpins OK but when there is no change in dynamic marking CC11 jumps around by as much as 25 points from one note to the next in a continuous phrase using the same patch. I've noticed this particularly this evening whilst using the Str. VI Presets for Sibelius v.2.3  orchestral strings

  • Hello David!

Sibelius tries to imitate human performing. The amount of that can be set up in the menu Play/Performance/Espressivo and Rubato.

Winknotes, please check your settings in the Human Playback/Dynamics & Volume menu. I recommend choosing "Expression (CC#11) + Velocity" for Dynamic Approach. If you want to use Velocity X-Fade, assign CC11 to the Velocity X-Fader. In order to avoid double dynamics you may want to assign a differnt controller than 11 (or none) to the Expression fader in the Vienna Instruments player.

    Best regards,

  • Thanks Andi.  I do have the dynamic approach set as you've stated, but the bit about double dynamics using velocity Xfade and expression might be at the heart of my problem.  I usually set up a hidden expression to turn xfade on and off and routinely set the velocity Xfade fader to 11 and leave expression set to 11 so both faders are moving in tandem.  Sometimes this makes an instrument much too loud.  So I think i'll try what you suggest and leave velocity Xfade on from beginning to end and see what happens.  Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Thanks Andi (again) that did it.
