  • Yet Another Noob Question: How To Use AB Switch?

    Hi,

I give up. Maybe it's ADHD. I was hoping to create a preset for Chamber Strings where I use the AB Switch to go between snap pizz and 'regular' pizz...  just change the current 'Y' functions in the standard 'Articulation Mod' preset from CC1 to the AB Switch.

Basically, I want to take that Articulation Mod preset and for all the patches move the XFade amount to CC1 and swap out the Y axes all to the AB Switch.

And then be able to still use the Y with another controller... say 'Speed'... in certain patches. So the A/B would always take priority to 'force' the keyswitch.

Can't figure it out. How to do? Or is A/B built into the patch?

    TIA,

    ---JC

  • At least up till now the A/B switch has always been set permanently to specific alternate samples in certain instruments.  It can be accessed by different controllers, but is itself unique to the articulation.  So for example you have regular legato/portamento on the A/B switch in Appassionata violins/violas/cellos. You can change what does the switching (like keyswitch, CC, etc.) but you can't change what is swtiched.   On instruments that do not already have A/B articulations programmed in, you cannot use it.  For example, the Orchestral strings do NOT have that same A/B switch.  This isn't really a problem since all the cells with their many slots do the same thing, and the A/B switch is added mainly as a convenience for universally used alternations.

  • Got it. As I thought about it, I kinda figured that was the case. I was looking for a way to utilise the A/B thing. Just sits there waiting to be used. :D

    Thanks,

    ---JC

  • The A/B switch is very necessary with the dynamics articulations, switiching between crescendos and decrescendos for example.

  • Is there any place where the specific use of AB switches is listed per instrument? Is it on the site somewhere?

    Hi,

You can always check the Library Manuals.
