  • Vienna Instruments Pro as default n VEP5

Quick question.  I just got VI Pro, but I am not sure how to make it the default player when I am using VEP5.  When I add an instruemtn channel it still comes up with the old VI player.  Where can I make this change?

Also, I am just starting to use the Dimension Strngs Violins, and I have read the manual, but I thik I'll have some questions aobut that soon to.  Always a learning curve, but the sound of the DS seems totally worth it.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • OK - I found the button at the bottom right of the VEP5 screen that allows you to add a VI Pro channel, but whenever I try to add an instrument  get an immediate message from Windows saying "Vienna Ensemble Pro has stopped working" and everything freezes and I have to reboot.

Clearly something is wrong, but I don't know what. I have checked to make sure the .VST plugin for Vienna Instruments Pro is recognized by Sonar and it is.  I'm stuck.  Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • You have to load VI PRO and VI Player "AFTER" you load VE PRO 5.  So if I were you, I would reload VE PRO 5, then reboot.  Then after the reboot, come in and install all of the other VSL players you have.  I.E. VI PRO 2, VI Player, Vienna Imperial, Vienna Suite etc.  You can load ALL of those without rebooting in between.  Just reboot after you load the last one.

Hopefully that fizes your problem.  And don't forget what I said above applies to upgrades in the future.  If you upgrade your VE PRO 5 and VI PRO 2 player, you need to always load VE PRO 5 first, then everyhting else after.

Before I do this (it's a fairly big undertalking) I want to ask one thing.  I had originlly installed VEP5/MIR prior to everything else (months ago when i bought the new machine).  Vienna Instruments Pro is the newest thing I've bought, so that was definitely intalled after VEP5.  Do you think I still need to uninstall everything and start from scratch?

I'm not even sure I have the original installation files, hopefully they can be re-downloaded at anytime if you have registered them.

As I said, I'm willing to do this if absolutely nercessary, but why would it have not worked considering VIPro WAS installed after VEP5?

    Thanks again,

    Mike

  • I forgot to ask again, is there a way to have VIPro be the default player when adding instruments, or do you always have to choose it prior to creating a new channel?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • The fact that you said you installed VE PRO 5 months ago is even more reason why you need to upgrade.  VSL has almost completely moved all of their code to a single platform, meaning all of their products are so tied together now you almost need to update all of them when they release a new update to something.  Especially when they update VE PRO 5.  So here is what I would do:

    1.  Do a system restore point.  Don't ever think about upgrading your software without some type of backup to get you back to where you were.

    -  Go to START --> RIGHT BLICK "COMPUTER" --> choose "PROPERTIES" from the menu

    -  Click "SYSTEM PROTECTION" on the left

    -  Go to the "SYSTEM RESTORE" tab at the top of the new window that pops up

    -  Click on "CREATE" button, and give it a name of "before updating all my VSL Software" and let it finish.  Close all the windows when done.

    3.  Login to the VSL Website and go to USER AREA --> SOFTWARE --> and then download all of these from the left (be sure to pick the Windows version):  Save them all to one folder.

    -  Vienna Instruments

    -  Vienna Instruments PRO

    -  Vienna Ensemble PRO 5

    -  Vienna Imperial

    -  Vienna MIR

IF YOU OWN IT - Download Vienna Suite also but I don't see it in your signature.

    4.  Install them now in this order:

    -  VE PRO 5 (reboot)

    -  Vienna MIR PRO (no reboot)

    -  Vienna Instruments (no reboot)

    -  Vienna Instruments PRO (no reboot)

    -  Vienna Imperial (no reboot)

    -  Vienna Suite if you own it

    5.  Now reboot your machine.  Do not open Sonar or the VE PRO 5 server.  Instead, first open VE PRO 5 STAND ALONE.

    6.  Try to add an instance of:

    -  VI PLAYER FREE

    -  VI PRO 2

    -  Open an instance of a MIR PRO STAGE

    -  Add a Vienna Suite plugin to one of the added channels

    7.  If all those things worked then you are ready to do all of this with the server version, inside of Sonar.  If you need any specific setup instructions for Sonar, they are in the manual.

About your automatically open a VI PRO 2 channel, I am not sure what you mean because I do not know how you're doing it.  You either have to click the button on the bottom bar of VE PRO 5, or you can hit CTRL + SHIFT + N and it will add a VI PRO 2 instance.

    Hope that helps,
