  • New to Sibelius

I loaded Sibelius on a VisonDAW PC running Windows 7. I installed the  6 XML files in the Sounds folder of C/users/VisionDaw user/roaming/avid/sibelius7/sounds. I installed 4 VI presets in c/users/public/public documents/VSL Custom Data/ Choir VI presets etc.

I opened a test string quartet in Sibelius and tested the four voices via the Yamaha keyboard and they sound and input notes normaly. I opened the playback devices and the active device is Sibelius player using the Sibelius 7 sound set the test is sucessful.

However, there are not VI devices listed in the Available Devices table. I would like to use Vienna Instruments Pro , Vienna ensemble pro5 and the Vienna suites with the Sibelius program. How do I get these to appear in the Available Devices table? The license dongle is attached an updated. The VI softwares have all been updated.

    Thanks,

    Stephen W. Beatty

  • If you installed the VIs after installing Sibelius, you need to tell Sibelius to rescan your VI folder.  You do this in Play>Configuration Setup>Audio Engin Options>Rescan.

Since you are on a PC, you may also need to tell Sibelius where the VI folder is.  I am not sure how to do this.  I'm sure it's in the reference manual though.

  • I am working on  PC. I opened audioengine options>rescan restart sibelius no change. Opened audioengine options added Vsl MIR restart sibelius  no change.

  • Couple other ideas.

If the VIs are not showing in the available devices list then one of the following is happening:

    1.  You didn't install the VIs correctly.

    2.  The VIs are 64-bit only and you are running Sibelius in a 32-bit OS (or vice versa).

    3.  The VIs are in a folder that Sibelius doesn't know about.

    4.  If the VIs are showing in the available devices list but can't be activated then you need to create a new playback configuration before activating them.  When you select the Sibelius 7 Sounds playback configuration, you can't add any other devices to the active devices list.  This is by design for simple usage models.

    5.  Your device driver isn't compatible with the VIs (you should be using ASIO4ALL).  Set this up in the Audio Engine Options as before.  This one I know the least about since I use Sibelius on a Mac.

As regards to MIR or the Vienna Suite apps, these are effects and not playback devices and will not show up on the playback devices list.  You insert these in the effects page.

  • One more possibility...

Make sure you are updated to Sibelius 7.1.3

  • Hello Stephen!

I guess you simply have to tell Sibelius the path of your plugins folder. This can be done in the Audio Engine Options/Folders menu. As dbudde has already written, if you are using Sibelius 7 64-bit, add the folder with the 64-bit plugins and if you are using Sibelius 7 32-bit, add the folder with the 32-bit plugins.

If you don't remember where you have installed the plugins, you can do a search for the file "Vienna Ensemble Pro x64.dll" for the 64-bit plugin or for the file "Vienna Ensemble Pro.dll" for the 32-bit plugin.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • I am trying to score an etude for eight violins using dimensional strings. I composed the composition in Logic 9 and saved a midi file which I imported into sibelius. The score appears to be fine but when I play it in sibelius Violin 1 in the Sib score plays the Violin 2 voice in Vienna pro mir  and Violin 2 in Sib  score plays Violin voice in MIR  etc. Violin 8 in the sib score does not play . How do you get the voices to correspond?

    Thank for all your help

    Stephen

  • I'm guessing you didn't set up a manual sound set.  If that is the case, in Sibelius Play>Setup, click the manual sound sets tab and do the following:

    1.  Click the Use manual sounds set check box.

    2. Specify the device as Vienna Ensemble Pro (should default to this if it is the only playback device)

    3. Specify the spund set as VE Strings (should default to this if it is the only playback device)

    4.  Specify the number of midi channels (in your case 8)

    5.  for each midi channel select the program name as dinension violins and click apply.  This will show up in the right side of the manual sound set pane.  When you are done you will see each channel on the right side with Dimension Violins and the sound ID specified.

Then in VE Pro assuming you set up your instruments in order of midi channel then the score channel 1 will transmit to VE Pro channel 1, etc.
