We have re-packaged the Library Updates recently, no changes in the fixes from the files that were available before...
But you can always run the Library Updates, they will do no harm.

I think it's because I didn't look at anything but the date of the download file, not seeing it was for downloading the entire library!

OK, I'm confused. When I first posted on this, I was asking about the full sample content, I think. I periodically browse my User Area to see if there are new files. I did this recently, and I saw that there were several library updates dated December XX, 2012. So I downloaded them and installed them, which took the better part of a day, and then I wondered, "it would be interesting to know what is different after having downloaded all these files."
Maybe I should first ask, am I doing this right?
Well I'm confused now, I don't see any Library updates at all. But the download libraries seem to have a December 2012 date on them.
Is there just confusion here over a library "update" and a library "download", is it just that the downloads have been repackaged without actually changing anything?

Sorry for the confusion.
The LIBRARY UPDATES will always get your VSL products up to date, no matter which sample content you have installed (be it from the DVD or the downloaded sample content).
The Sample Content Download was re-packaged a few times lately, as we have improved the download process. In this process (and for everybody who purchases a new product to download) we have also incorporated the fixes that were made in the last few years in the DVD Library Updates.
